New foster baby is addicted to Meth, any advise?

I'm a foster parent and was just asked to take a newborn baby that is addicted to Meth. The baby will arrive later today and I dont know what to expect. I was told in training that Meth babies dont sleep much, other than that I dont have any expectations. What should I expect? How will the baby be? Please help,I want to be well educated in just a few hours. ThanksNew foster baby is addicted to Meth, any advise?
I am assuming you mean methamphetamine and not methadone.

If that's the case, probably expect a VERY sensetive, high-strung, crying, likely even screaming baby... It will probably wreck your nerves till the baby is all cleaned up on the insides. Just cuddle and hold and coo and love him/her.

Think colic, but quite a bit more intense.

PS. a dim, quiet room is most effective for calming down during the rough times.

And props to you for what you are doing. I thank you for the baby's and the mother's sake.New foster baby is addicted to Meth, any advise?
Meth babies have a higher risk for SIDS, so keep an eye on it. I am sure the state has had it evaluated but have it done again for your peice of mind. Give it all the love and care that it deserves. Swadel them too, I read they like that. Below are a few site that I hope help you out. I really like the www.kci.org. Best wishes. God bless you, you are angel in that babies eyes.
I suppose what you don't learn in a few hours you will learn through experience. Best wishes and thank you for doing this baby such a good service! We need more good people like you!
Wow. I hope you can handle what's in store for you. Please, do the baby and yourself a favor and seek medical assistance while the baby is detoxing. You will both need the help and the baby may need to be monitored while it comes down from the effects of meth.
Call a pediatrician, and God bless you.
I don't have any experience with methadone babies, but my older sister was addicted to it. Quite a bit different, but I do know she had trouble sleeping, and coming off it (she quit cold turkey) was horrible for her. My advice to you is, call your pediatrician and try to get an emergency appointment (tomorrow afternoon, at the latest) and take your baby in and discuss it with him/her. Good luck to you!
Hi. I dont want to upset you but, a friend of my mother's takes in foster children. This one time, she had a set of twin boys. Well, one of them passed on for what appeared to be no reason. They figured out that it was Sids. These baby's mother (If she even deserves that name) was I think addicted to crack. I'm sorry but, just keep a good eye on the baby.

I was the one who got the call from the lady when she couldnt wake the other twin up. :-( She was hysterical. Poor women. Good luck to you and God bless you.
Be prepared for a lot of crying, and no sleeping. It will take awhile for the baby to detox, for lack of a better word.
Just think of how someone acts when they are going thru withdrawls from getting off of Meth/Drugs. I imagine the baby will be irritable and sensitive. Might be good to try and soothe the baby in a dark room with a soft voice. The baby is literallly going thru withdrawl. You'll see. Just think peaceful...Good Luck. God Bless you for taking care of other people's babies.
