Need some advise regarding childs cronic cough?

My 8 yr old son gets this cronic cough that starts in the fall and then comes and goes till spring. He is a very ';nasally'; and always hacking up flem. He does not have a fever and does not act sick. The dr. has said its just ';allergies'; but I just worry with him having all that junk in his lungs all the time. Could it be something else? Asthma? Does anyone else have any Ideas???Need some advise regarding childs cronic cough?
Yes it could be his allergies along with asthma. My son had that same cough all year long. Sure enough he has food and seasonal allergies and asthma. Go to an allergy doctor they can run a breathing test on him and clear things up. Good luck.Need some advise regarding childs cronic cough?
My oldest son, who is also 8,had this hacking cough all the time. He had it for months and it bothered me and then suddenly it went away, but just as suddenly came back. Then my youngest son developed asthma after a severe reaction to some vaccinations. He's taking Zyrtec among other things, and my oldest son is as well. It took care of his cough and really helps both of my kids' allergies. When they get that congested cough, right away I start giving them Mucinex. It helps clear out their lungs. I've been really pleased with the results.

You've taken him to the doctor already and didn't get anywhere. I agree with the other contributors - try a specialist - maybe an ear, nose and throat doctor, and/or an allergy specialist.

Wish you the best.
It could be post nasal drip, ( due to allergies). I would go to the doctor and get a prescription for a nasal spray. Using a nasal spray in combination with an antihistamine should help.
Take him to an allergy doctor specializing in children. The doctor can run some tests and prescribe medication to help.
Sounds like asthma to me. Same symptoms as my son. Also might be an allergen in the house.
