Looking to purchase gaming computer, advise needed?

Im looking to buy a gaming computer, i was looking at laptops, but also at PC's. What type of specs should i be looking for for a laptop and for a PC inorder to play the latest games. Damn, for that money! Honesty i suggest building your own, but with your budget, you have alot of options, Honesty laptops are just weak! What you should be looking at is graphics card, cpu(processor) motherboard, ram, this is all important. With that budget, i suggest a 200-400 graphics card, like a 4870, or 260 gtx, or the 285gtx. Processor it all depands on you, if you want to save, or spend, the core i7 look good, 300buxs! Or the new amd phenom 940. 200BUXS! If you are looking at prebuilt, check out the new gateway fx lines, there is one for 1300, am sure you would injoy it, it has the new core i7 cpu, 750gbs of harddrive space, and a 4850 gpu, great graphics card, enough for today gaming, and possibly tomorrow as well. Buy a Dell XPS, even though I dont have one they look great!
call dell and they can make a custom computer for your needs.
laptops are not for gaming they can't be upgraded
